In Tribulation

Well guys I’m genuinely conflicted.  We’re going to be done with most of the character/storyline/plot improvements and beveling over those rough edges by the end of this weekend, right on schedule.  Thanks in large part go to Panesgrey, a Beta Reader and bartender (moderator) over at the Jim Butcher forum for helping out with this essential part of the editing process.

But most unfortunately, the head of the editing team (my brother) really wants to wait another week before release.  A fourth member of the editing team,  SuperPsycho over at ourforum.com has been doing a stand up job of locating most if not all of those irritating little misplaced commas, grammar nits, run-on sentences and clunkily worded or indecipherable paragraphs with descriptors or combat actions that don’t seem to make sense.  Alas he’s not done yet and I’m not sure if a week will be long enough.  It might be one to two weeks.

I don’t want to wait much longer, but my brother really wants this thing to be all it can be for you guys the first time you read it.

Can’t say it’ll be the final say on the matter but do you guys think?  Any thoughts on if we should bevel off all those rough edges before release or just send it out now.

I’d say that right now its definitely better than the first book when we initially launched it but we’ve come to learn that’s not good enough.

Well, considering that I have been waiting for what seems like forever to get my hands on this one and I re-read for the bajillionth time the first two, half of me want’s to say “Well, waited this long, a little longer wont kill me” but the other half is saying “bbbbuuuttttt IIII wwwaaannnntttt iiiittttt nnnnoooowwwww…”

and at this very boring point of my weekend the second half is kinda strong arming the first… but I know that I should be patient…

Compromise! Post a few snipets or the first chapter , it will be available free at amazon when you post you book anyway . This way all your loyal groupies will have some crack before the book release .

Well, what we COULD do is release the Akantha prequel in the interim…what say you all to that?

You can release the ARC version now and release the final version in 2 weeks (once u r satisfied with quality). Your fans (like me) will not have issue with minor grammatical mistakes.

Personly, if you were to put it up right now, I’d buy it and read it.
And then once you update it, I’d read it again.

So, my vote is releasing it now, but its up to you. Do YOU want to release it now? Or wait?

I vote for release it now, but I love eARCs. Failing that can we have the first few chapters

Release it when you are ready. It pains me to say that, as I too have been waiting for this book. However, how many times have you seen negative reviews on Amazon due to misplaced commas or a spelling error? Who needs that? We will wait.

Nioc is right; it can’t be good getting negative reviews over spelling and grammar errors.

That said eARC are becoming more and more common, and much like Emil I would buy it now, read it, and then read it again in a fortnight when the finial edit is released without any problems. I read everything more than once.

Very little of the independently published/released works are released without some spelling and grammar error. It is something I do not readily take in to account when approaching a such a novel.

Still you must do as you feel is right.

Wait, release it when your editor thinks it is ready.

I’m with the people who want a snippet or two now and the rest once you’re satisfied with it. I’d of course really like to read the whole thing now, but I don’t want you to put your writing career at risk by putting out a substandard product. Everyone on your blog is already addicted to your storylines, but we want you to make enough money to keep writing indefinitely.

I really hope the book is actually released tomorrow since I kinda took monday off so I could read the book.
I suppose I’ll just spend the day in a comfy chair with cocoa in my left hand and my tablet in my right hand, re-reading the previus books ;D

I do not remember how many times I’ve read the books now..

The Irons books by Chris Hechtl are a tragic reminder of why we should all be glad the Spineward Sectors Novels do get a lot of editing and proof reading and just general feedback/criticism. Lots of good ideas tons of effort from the author but rambling and repetitive narrative mixed with idiot ball characterisation all drowning in a ocean of typos and grammar problems. And I’m someone who kind of like them.

Poor Man’s Fight by Elliott Kay is romp great story although I know a lot of people were put off with the more Die Hard in space ships style scenes I loved them.

I couldn’t get into Chris Hechtl’s, Wandering Engineer series, the whole waking up after the death of all he knew was too much like John Hemry’s, Lost Fleet series, with Jack ‘Black Jack’ Geary. They are not the same, but still I just could not focus.

Elliot Kay’s, Poor Man’s Fight, is most assuredly worth a read however. For those whom are looking for a book to fill the wait.

I guess its a YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) situation I actually think the first two New Dawn and Fools Gold were the best of the series so far, they still had all the problems but at least their underlying stories was engaging and entertaining, while unfortunately Destiny’s Choice and Ghost Station had all the problems with none of the redeeming features.

I suggest Prince of Tanith and Princess Valerie’s War by Terry Mancour and as mentioned Poor Man’s Fight by Elliott Kay for you Space Opera/Military Sci/Fi fix until we can get our grubby little mits on Admiral’s Tribulation.

I like chris hechtl’s wandering engineer series. Seems he had some issues getting his books edited (to the point he has/had a few books finished but unreleased due to a lack of edition) but looks like he found a bigger group of people to help him with that now. The other issue is that we are in a part of the story arc where the admiral is facing repeat failures, but that should change in a couple of books or so, it seems…

Anyway, back on topic, an eARC edition could be the solution…
