Just read Admirals Gambit. Loved every minute of it! Gave you a great review on Amazon. How does one become a beta reader? I am sure you get that a lot, but I kept spotting missing words like “is”, “to”, “the”, etc. Anyway, I have a talent (or curse) for spotting this stuff and I would be willing to help. Not grammar checking really–just spotting the places where most people’s brains insert missing text for them.

Hi, just finished Book 2 and can’t wait for number 3. Was there supposed to be a preview for the 3rd book at the end like in the first book or is everything as it should be with my copy without it. I bought it through Amazon.de because I live in Germany and don’t have a credit card.

Glad you guys liked the book.

@ Richard in CA: Thanks for the review, can’t get enough of them both because it helps the book sell but also because it gives us a sense of the strengths and weaknesses of the book.
Becoming a Beta reader is mostly about showing up in the same places as the would-be author and offering to help. All Beta readers have different strengths they bring to the table, some are those famous Grammer Nazi’s and help out with those spelling and gramatical errors that plague us so. That said ‘most’ in my experience (having been a beta reader) do more than just spotting missing words and run on sentences (although don’t get me wrong that is a vitally important task!). They also comment on story and plot, what worked, what didn’t work and what needs fixed. Mostly on a chapter by chapter basis. Anything from a line or two, up to whole paragraphs for areas that need it.
Example: what happened to those Fusion Generators and Blasted Imperial Style Battlesuits! You can’t tell me we weren’t at least trying to get our hands on them and upgrade our Battleship before the Constructor and Imperial Ship suddenly blew up!!!
Counter Example: Author goes, crud you’re totally right! Thanks for the catch! -Insert a couple lines in appropriate places-.
A great place to get your feet wet is http://bar.baen.com/ look for the Slush Pile. Kind of a training ground for authors and beta readers.
For me I’m still in the opening stages of book three. Won’t be needing betas again for a couple months! Have to focus in on writing the next one first!

@Martin Lux: Sound like you got it all! No preview in Book 2 like there was in Book 1. So your copy sounds like its got everything. Glad you liked it!
